Anyone have a Gemtech Blackside?
Thinking of picking one up but am torn between the AAC Evolution or the Blackside in .45

Re: Anyone have a Gemtech Blackside?
I have tried both, and I am in the queue for an Blackside. I would wait for a Ti-RANT, but I do not know how long the wait would be. The Blackside is much less expensive than the Evo, $580/$750 versus $895, with the Blackside having the LID booster as an option. I like AAC, but their products are very pricey. The Blackside is also half the weight of the Evo, something that may be an advantage.
Remember the Evo is a wet suppressor while the Blackside can be fired dry. The one really nice thing about the Blackside is it does not need the LID recoil booster for the 1911. Since the Blackside was developed for the 1911 platform, it makes sense for me to use it. It also made the Blackside MSRP $580 which is over $300 less than the AAC Evo. That difference covers the tax stamp. |
Re: Anyone have a Gemtech Blackside?
Thanks for the comparison... exactly what I was looking for. I was wondering what the extra $$ got you with the AAC and I've never owned anything from AAC before.
Placing order for the Blackside for a G-21. |
Re: Anyone have a Gemtech Blackside?
AAC is the "hot ticket" in suppressor design, and they charge a premium for it. To be fair, there is some merit as they have pushed the boundaries of suppressor design. Some of the premium is due to very good marketing.
It should be said that the Gemtech Blackside was originally designed for a specific military purpose, to suppress 1911 pistols used by the Army without the need for a LID. That also happened to be what I wanted to do, suppress a 1911 without a LID. A design priority/goal was put on minimizing size and weight, which is why the Blackside is made totally from Al alloys. The Evo is heavier because it uses steels in addition to Al alloys. The Evo may last longer although I will probably run out of money to shoot .45 ammo before I destroy the Blackside. |
Re: Anyone have a Gemtech Blackside?
I have....I mean had a KAC suppressor that is.....I mean was built like a tank. I swear that if you were to ever run out of bullets you could just use the thing like a slapjack. It was originally for my HK .45 Tactical but it also worked great on both my G20 and G29 pistols. I would think that any steel/alloy can would hold up well for many moons. I would recommend staying away from all aluminum or carbon fiber cans however. On a side note, it has been my experience that a suppressed .22 is much more effective for quiet work than almost any other center fire pistol. Just sayin. Bx3

Re: Anyone have a Gemtech Blackside?
Interesting video of an AAC Evolution equipped Sig .45 pistol. Note the first round "pop". Subsequent rounds seem nice & quiet.
